I joined late to Bootcamp, so I’ve been doing a lot of catching up! This was the February assignment - to design a phone cover with Cuckoo Clocks.

I tried a new color palette for me, using more muddy colors as our great teacher Lilla always suggests. I have to say that I’m happy with the end result.

As a result of MATS - I am also working on a new logo as I feel that my current one isn’t fitting my growing style. Would love to hear your feedback…

For Lilla Rogers May Bootcamp we had to illustrate this article “How to meditate - a primer for people who don’t like to meditate”. This is my editorial piece, it was so much fun and such a great exercise as usual!

I do practice mindful meditation which has changed the way I see life into a completely new perspective, so this was particulary interesting for me! So take my advice and give it a try :)

I’ve been working on a new wallpaper design and have been inspired by these colors and shapes.
I have also joined Lilla Rogers Bootcamp, which is similar to MATS but in a more relaxed way. This past week has been a mix of flowers and vintage dolls!  Soon I’ll be posting some sketches for the dolls assignment, right now I have a lot of catching up to do! Have a great weekend.

So this is my final piece for Make Art that Sells e-course! I had a great time doing this one! Week 5 was all about the gift market and we were told to design a hyper-lush zipper pouch based on our favorite items we collect.

I’m not much of a collector but I do have a few elephants around my house. They are my favorite animals. In India elephants are symbols of wisdom, strength and knowledge. I don’t really know why, but they’ve always inspired me.

Now that my mind was opened by Lilla Rogers I will have to expand my work even further. I’ll be trying out different markets, different approaches and will definitely be incorporating more illustration to my work.

I took this course with the goal of growing as a designer, and I feel I just did. Thank you Lilla!

This past week has been yet another transformation. I can’t help but feel amazed by how much MATS has opened my eyes into other market opportunities and most importantly how my art can be translated into them.

So week 4 assignment was all about Wall Art! We were told this was the easy week, so I was kind of relaxed about it. Well I was wrong because I had only one day to dedicate myself to it as I had other projects to work on.  And it wasn’t easy at all!!

I was excited about using paint and collage which I hadn’t done in ages, but it was also scary. So I had to create an abstract wall art using pink, purple, and was also allowed neutral colors. I had to incorporate a flower of some sort, use collage and paint and some words.

I was inspired by by Ben Harper’s "Don’t give up on me now" which I’ve been listening to a lot lately.

This is what I came up with. I’m not very proud of this but I honestly think its the color that puts me off. I’ll have to try this with a different color palette.

I think what I haven’t managed to do was to make the colors pop because I felt discouraged from getting the two colors that I cringe when I think about them together.  Oh well, another lesson learnt :)

Today I got my copy of Uppercase Magazine. So exciting to see my  three designs next to so many designers who I admire. I still cannot believe it :)
If you are interesting in getting a copy, they are available to purchase as a single copy here.
The patterns next to mine are from Mirdinara. She has the most adorable flower prints. Check her out!

There has been little time to think about anything else besides MATS this week. The assignment for week three was to either illustrate the cover or do a spread for the fable of “The Fox and the Crow”. Children’s book illustration is a theme I love, but I’ll have to admit I felt really out of my comfort zone here. I feel as if I’m still discovering my style with characters; I probably sketched around 200 foxes in 5 days. I guess that is the secret when it comes to developing something that is truly you. My 5 year old son loved it, so that made me happy!

Wishing you a great Easter !

I’ve been immersed in succulents research for MATS assignment nº2. We have to create 2-4 designs for the Home Decor market, to be placed in plates. Very exciting! I’ve been having loads of fun experimenting new techniques and using different media. Now I have to put it all together.. I foresee late, late nights, but none of that matters when you’re doing what you love.

So last week I started MATS Part A! Lilla is really a great teacher…in only one week I know I have grown as an artist in so many ways. I truly recommend this course to anyone who wants to evolve as an artist, it opens up your little box and magic does happen. Totally worth the investment.

Our first assignment was to create a vintage kitchen theme with tropical fruit and pyrex style dishes as icons.  So exciting as this was completely off my comfort zone, and with little time to dedicate myself to this course as much as I would love to, I managed to squeeze this in time for the deadline.

Looking back at it now I know I could of made it look great instead of just good! So next assignment I’m pushing myself even further, even if that means waking up at 5.00am or having late, late evenings!
